DAY FOURTEEN: A DAY-OF-REST @ DAWSON CREEK

ALASKA HIGHWAY MILE POST "ZERO" IN DOWNTOWN DAWSON CREEK
We all slept-in this morning and had a late breakfast before attending church at Dawson Creek First Baptist.  The people of the church were very warm and friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.  We found out that when you're traveling to Alaska the locals call it "going up".
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF DAWSON CREEK

We stayed at the campground most of the remainder of the day just relaxing and people watching.  We happened to have the first campsite near the campground entrance and it was fun seeing the variety of  RV's arriving.  The entrance to the campground has a big pothole caused by all the rain and some people don't slow down enough and get quite a surprise when the hit it.  I was watching as a jacked-up Dodge pickup pulling a travel trailer hit the pothole at high speed and the trailer unhitched.  The trailer rammed the rear of the pickup before the brake-a-way brakes stopped it and the tongue jack dug into the road.  I helped the driver get the trailer jacked up and re-hitched and suggested it would be prudent to put a bolt in the trailer coupler's safety latch.  Luckily, the only visible dammage was a ruined rear bumper and the driver's pride.

Tomorrow morning we plan to start north on the Alaska Highway and hope to be in Alaska by next weekend.
