Today we left Homer and returned to Soldotna as we start to Valdez via Eagle River. We wanted to spend some more time in Soldotna to attend "Saw Fest 2011" which is a chainsaw carving contest. During this annual event ten Alaskan carvers will create original chainsaw carvings from large white spruce logs which were brought in from Seward. The carvers will work on their creations each day, Wednesday through Saturday, while the public watches. The winner will be decided Saturday by the carving which receives the most votes. After arriving in Soldotna we visited their Farmers' Market which was more of a craft show; however, we still enjoyed our time there. We then spent several hours at Saw Fest watching the carvers and of course looking at the vendors wares and we even made a few purchases.
