This morning we awoke to a beautiful sunny Sunday morning with a temperature of 47 degrees. We attended church at the "Chapel of the North" just outside of Tok where we were warmly welcomed by a very friendly congregation. Pastor Terry Bringer presented the message based on the teachings of Jesus as recorded in Matthew 6; which was followed by Holy Communion. After church we had a quick lunch and headed for Delta Junction which is the official end of the Alaska Highway. On the way to Delta Junction we saw a moose and her calf which was a treat. When we crossed the Robertson River Bridge we were surprised to see areas of the river still covered in ice which appeared to be 3 to 4 feet thick; the Robertson River heads at the terminus of the Robertson Glacier. We're spending the night at the Big Delta State Historical Park, site of Rika's Roadhouse which is named for Rika Wallen a Swedish immigrant who owned and managed the roadhouse from 1917 until the late 1940's and continued to live in the house until her death in 1969. We toured the Park which contains many of the original buildings and artifacts including a sod roofed building and a summer garden. We drove the Jeeps back to Delta Junction where we received certificates for completing the drive of the entire length of the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek to Delta Junction.
