DAY 54: ON THE ROAD TO VALDEZ

MATANUSKA GLACIER
Today we left Eagle River and after fueling both the coaches and jeeps, we started on our journey to Valdez.  On the way we stopped at the Palmer Farmers' Market and enjoyed seeing the vendor displays, made a few purchases and ate some good blueberry ice cream.  We continued on the Glenn Highway (AK-1) and enjoyed some more spectacular views including another glacier.  We turned onto the Richardson Highway (AK-4) about 4 p.m. and by that time we were all ready to stop for the day.  We found a pull-off about 20 miles down Richardson and Ben grilled pork chops for dinner.
THE FARMERS' MARKET WAS AT THE VISITOR'S CENTER

  1. Love the updates! Been following your journey since you left us. Should've mentioned it earlier but Glennallen ( where he Glenn Hwy & Richardson Hwy meet) is where I worked in the clinic and how I was first introduced to Alaska. Also, in Glennallen is Alaska Bible College, which is where I met Jon. If you have the time, look into seeing Kennicott, Chitina & stop to see Liberty Falls (just past Kenny Lake towards Chitina) if you have time. Can't wait to see your next update!! Erika & the boys
